“I worked with BBC on a large scale commercial buildout. The process, timeline and scope was clearly laid out from the start. BBC met our expectations throughout the project and were a pleasure to work with. They were prompt, transparent and flexible. They guided me through the buildout professionally and I am very pleased with the finished product. They have also been a great resource after the completion of the project. I would highly recommend BBC and would definitely use them in any future projects.”

“It was an absolute pleasure working with Berkeley Building Company on our recent renovation project. From the very beginning, they were more than just a contractor, they were a partner. BBC took the time to understand both our project and our organization. They were sensitive to our constraints and worked with us to ensure we addressed all the crucial outcomes of the project. The team was professional, supportive and the outcome was amazing! We were on budget, on schedule and the finished product blew us away. We don’t think we could have been as successful as we were without the BBC team as our partner on this project.”

“I have had the opportunity to work with Berkeley Building Company on numerous projects from tenant fit outs, ground up additions, complicated space re-positioning, and various other projects over the last six years. I have found their entire team to be diligent and transparent with a tremendous awareness of quality, cost, and schedule. They have always found ways to creatively solve issues that arise during construction or with the design. I would highly recommend Berkeley for another project.”

Berkeley Building Company has been a godsend to St. Mary’s Center for Women and Children.  Emil Frei and his team have transformed our residential programs more than once through their talent, dedication, and expertise.

Most recently, Berkeley served as the lead general contractor–for our new Recreation Room project–entirely pro bono, allowing us to allocate more resources to our programs and services benefiting families!

Thanks to Berkeley’s extraordinary generosity as well as their beautiful construction, hundreds of children who each year call St. Mary’s home, now have a safe, warm place to run and play, and enjoy the everyday joys of childhood.”

BBC Completes Infrastructure Upgrades for Conservation Law Foundation

About the Owner

Built in 1873, the Conservation Law Foundation’s four-story building had undergone several renovations, but by 2018, the CLF felt it was looking tired, unwelcoming and not reflective of the organization’s environmental mission.

Project Overview

The project involved upgrades to the infrastructure of CLF’s existing four-story wood framed building with masonry exterior, and included a new roof, an upgraded lobby to meet ADA compliance, and new/upgraded MEPs throughout.

Project Details

The main entrance was opened up to make a welcoming lobby clad in reclaimed barn lumber with visual displays of CLF’s works. A much expanded second floor conference room now provides a flexible meeting space for meetings, classes and events with AV facilities to connect with CLFs other New England offices. The renovation refreshed all the interiors, with new finishes and LED lighting. And a new white roof and insulation reduced loads for the new, all electric HVAC system which, combined with sustainable power purchases, makes CLF’s entire energy use fossil fuel free.

This project was executed in a very tight urban setting – so tight that all deliveries and load outs had to be performed off hours.

Project Team Members

Team members included Project Architect Jonathan Austin of Austin Architects, and BBC project Team members Al Charpentier, Sr. Project Manager, and Emil Frei-Howe, Superintendent.

“We have worked with Emil and Berkeley Building on many renovation projects at area Institutions and business spaces. Emil has provided exceptional service and was an integral team member throughout the design and construction process, providing meaningful feedback on pricing and logistics that was critical to the success of our projects and their workmanship was outstanding”

“I have worked with Berkeley Building Company over the years and they always go to great lengths to ensure that everyone who might be potentially impacted is properly informed. They are effective at anticipating problems and taking steps to avoid them. I can speak from firsthand experience that in the heat of a large-scale project, this trait is one I came to rely upon. Berkeley Building Company is a well run company and is amply capable of creativity.”
